The Fair Housing Act prohibits discriminating against because of color, sex, religion, familial status, nationality or disability. It is against the law to threatening, intimidating, or interfering with the one’s desire of purchasing or renting certain property.
In the court case of Gladstone Realtors v. Village of Bellwood, a real estate firm was taken to court for steering. The following link provides information about this specific case

Housing professionals have to be fair when providing services to the public. As long as the person qualifies for a loan and is capable to acquire a property, agents and lenders should be prompt and willing to help.
